Our company specializes in resolving problems caused by birds in Saint Louis, Missouri, both residential and commerical. We handle bird species such as pigeons, starlings, grackles, sparros, and even Canada Geese and woodpeckers. We generally don't kill birds - we prevent them from causing problems. Most commonly, this means that we install barriers that prevent them access to your building or property, or anti-roosting devices that prevent them from landing, nesting, or roosting on your home, store, building, or anywhere. We use netting, needle strips, shock track, and more. We do offer trapping in some cases, and removal of birds from warehouses, grocery stores, or other commerical or industrial buildings by netting or sometimes pellet shooting. We have a wide variety of tools and methods for solving every manner of bird problem. Call us at 314-690-2799 to discuss your bird problem today.

How to get rid of bird nests

Birds can be wonderful creatures that really add to the ambience of your home and the community as a whole. The way they fly around and chirp really makes for a more homey feeling and can add so much to the look and feel of any neighborhood.

However, birds can also be a nuisance. Because of their ability to fly they can set up a home in almost any location on your property. While you may not find them doing so in the trees around your property, there are many spots where they will build nests that become quite inconvenient to say the least? You want to try to do all you can to deter this but it seems like it is a never ending battle at times.

What you are looking for are ways that you can be able to knock down these nests or destroy them so that the birds will have to look somewhere else. If this is what you are in need of, here are some things that you can do to get rid of bird's nests.

Let's first start out with one premise before discussing destroying any nest. In many cases the nest is built so that the mother bird has a place to lay her eggs, and take care of them until the birds are hatched and able to go out on their own. The reason that this is being mentioned is because you need to decide if you are willing to wait for those baby birds to be ready to go off on their own before you decide to take any action. There are some who will say that they don't care, but in the name of being humane it is really to your advantage, and shows a good heart and you, if you give the birds a little time for their young to be able to grow and leave.

Don't go to the nest and smash those eggs. Don't knock the nest on the ground so that the baby birds die. Give them a chance to survive.

The next thing to consider is where the bird's nest is located. This has a lot to do with how you will resolve this problem. If you find that they have built a nest along the eaves of your home, on top of the roof, in a tree, or even in your garage or shed, the simple thing to do is to go out with a broom and just knock the nest down.

Before doing so, ensure that you have your skin well covered with layers of clothing, that you have gloves on, that you're wearing a mask, and that your eyes are protected. You not only have to worry about the birds attacking you to protect their nest, but you also have to worry about diseases and parasites that are associated with the bird. By knocking that nest down, you may knock something onto yourself that could be hazardous to you. This is why it pays to be safe.

While this is a simple solution to handle the nest in these locations, there are some more complex situations that require a bit more thinking on your part. First of these is if you find a bird's nest inside your attic. You can't just go up and smash out that nest. The bird has figured out a way to get into your home. This means you first need to be able to get that bird out of the home before deciding to destroy the nest.

There are many great ways that you can use to accomplish this. One of the best is to use a one-way exclusion funnel. You simply scare out the bird so that it leaves your home, then seal up the entryway that it's using to get into your attic. Once the bird is out you simply remove the nest and throw it away. Once again, you want to make sure that you protect your skin's, your respiratory system, and your eyes whatever you are handling the nest. There are parasites and diseases that can be in the nest in the attic as well. You should always play it safe.

If you find the nest that is built in your chimney now you're talking about an entirely different circumstance. A really dumb idea that many people choose to do is to simply light their fireplace and then burn out the nest. If you want a flaming nest falling into your fireplace, potentially getting out onto your carpet, then go ahead and do this. You also may create a situation where the bird catches on fire and flies into your home, lighting your house on fire every place it lands. To say that this is not the solution is the understatement of the year.

Instead, you will need to use a kind of chimney sweep to drag the nest out of your chimney and then throw it away. Once you have done this it's a good idea to place a special kind of screen over the top of your chimney that will not allow the birds to regain access into it. If they've been there once they will return again. Stop them from being able to do so before they get the opportunity.

These are a few things that you can do to get rid of these nests. Once you have done so there are some repellents that you can buy that you can place an area where nests are being built that will deter the birds from returning.
